Merritt Island Park and Recreational Centre
This 25 hectare urban wilderness park, managed by the City of Welland, is actually an island created between the Welland River and the now inactive third phase of the Welland Canal. The visitor can experience nature while at the same time see close up the marvels of mid 20th century engineering at its finest as the canal passes over top of the river as it meanders eastward towards the Niagara River.
