Landscape of Nations
Located in Queenston Heights Park, the Landscape of Nations Memorial is a place to reflect on the enduring relationship between land, history, and Indigenous presence in Niagara. It honours the Haudenosaunee Confederacy and Indigenous allies whose contributions and sacrifices were central to the War of 1812, while also affirming the lasting role of First Nations peoples in shaping this region and the broader story of Canada.
The memorial also recognizes the peace and reconciliation ceremony held in Niagara on August 31 and September 1, 1815, which restored peace among First Nations who had fought on opposing sides during the war. As a living memorial, it invites visitors to consider Queenston Heights not only as a site of conflict, but also as a place of diplomacy, remembrance, and ongoing Indigenous connection to the land.
