Indigenous Partnerships

Learning with respect—grounded in relationship, responsibility, and authentic voices.

Central to Niagara Geopark’s vision is a commitment to meaningful, ongoing collaboration with Niagara’s Indigenous peoples. This work is rooted in respect, relationship, and shared stewardship, and reflects our commitment to celebrating Indigenous cultures, supporting Indigenous leadership and knowledge systems, and advancing reconciliation.

Niagara Geopark’s approach aligns with the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP) and the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s Calls to Action. We recognize the importance of respectful, rights-based engagement and the need for Indigenous voices, perspectives, and knowledge to help guide how stories of this land are shared.

Niagara Geopark is honoured to have received Council Resolutions of Support from both First Nations with Treaty Rights in the region: the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation and the Six Nations of the Grand River. These resolutions represent an important foundation of trust and shared stewardship.

The Niagara Academy for Indigenous Relations (NAIR) is the Niagara Geopark’s primary Indigenous knowledge advisory partner. Through this partnership, Indigenous voices and perspectives help guide interpretive signage, digital content, educational resources, trails, events, and sustainable tourism programming, helping ensure this work is developed with accuracy, respect, and integrity from the outset.
